ABOUT PIERRE
Prof. Montavon was one of the world’s leading veterinary surgeons of his generation with major contributions to orthopedic, trauma, and soft tissue surgical techniques. He is broadly recognized for generously passing his knowledge and skills to his peers and residents. During his tenure at the University of Zurich, he created an outstanding residency program, uniquely successful as measured by the number of his residents who have gone on to become diplomates of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons. His activity internationally included numerous visits to institutions of learning, participation in educational courses, as well as visits to private clinics where he demonstrated his innovations in surgery and coached his peers in performing them. His particular interests were in trauma and orthopedic surgery, exemplified by his pioneering contributions to surgical treatment of bone fractures, joint replacements, particularly hip joint replacement, as well as surgical treatments of cruciate ligament ruptures.

The Pierre M. Montavon Foundation for Education in Veterinary Surgery has been set up to honor his exceptional contributions to the field in which he devoted his professional life.
The objective of the Foundation is to facilitate the efforts of young surgeons wishing to improve their skills, mainly by co-sponsoring their visits to leading surgical clinics for further professional training.
